- Preheat grill to medium direct heat (300°F to 350°F). Meanwhile, crumble meat into medium bowl. Sprinkle with onion, chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic pepper, and salt, if desired; toss lightly with 2 forks to mix well. Shape into 6 patties, each 3/4-inch thick.
- Place patties on grill. Grill, covered, 5 to 7 minutes per side or until done (160°F). Top each burger with slice of cheese, if desired. Place buns, cut side down, on grill during last 1 to 2 minutes of cooking.
- Place burgers in buns and serve.
