- Preheat oven to 325°F. Coat a 2-quart square baking dish with nonstick cooking spray; set aside.
- In a medium skillet melt butter over medium-low heat. Add breadcrumbs; cook and stir 4 to 5 minutes or until breadcrumbs are lightly browned. Remove from heat; set aside.
- In a large bowl combine sugar, cinnamon and cloves. Add apple slices and vanilla; toss gently until coated. Layer half each of the apples and toasted breadcrumbs in prepared baking dish. Repeat layers, ending with breadcrumbs.
- Cover and bake 35 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 minutes more or until bubbly and apples are tender. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
